According to a research published in British Journal of Ophthalmology, there will be around 79.6 million people across the globe affected by any one type of Glaucoma by 2020. Glaucoma has been considered as second leading disease causing blindness all over the world. The same study also indicates that out of this 79.6 million, about 47 percent people will be from Asian continent.
While Glaucoma is just one eye disorder that has been affecting people across the globe, there are several such issues that may lead to eye infections and blindness. Another research substantiates that around 3.8 million persons become blind due to cataract each year in India.

According to Dr. Merine Paul, Chief Ophthalmologist, I Care Centre, Thrissur, Kerala, “The most important benefit in connection with eye care is prevention of all diseases. Proper eye check-ups will help eliminate most of the eye problems these days.”
Dryness in eyes causes allergies and other visual problems.
Yet another eye problem as far as children are concerned is injuries. They may come across with injuries after hitting a ball while playing or from pen or pencil etc.
“If you confront with such situations, take the child to an eye specialist as soon as possible. Just washing or trying out home remedies may end up with severe infections that even affect your eye vision,” shares Dr. Merine Paul.
Major eye problem with the working young people are again from the computers or mobile phones. Exposure to such gadgets continuously leads to refractive errors or allergies.
It is advisable to take breaks from looking into computers for long time. “If the job did not allow such breaks in between we usually recommend using eye drops to sustain moisture in eyes,” shares Ophthalmologists.
It is also recommended to take proper medical help in case of refractive errors like short sight. Leaving such issues without treatment will make it worse and after years it may affect the total vision of the eyes.
Migraine is another aspect that young people are dealing with these days. Due to the stressful life and hurry-burry, people sometimes ignore it and gradually it will show the real face. Ocular migraines, disturbances only for vision, can also occur in people which usually get ignored. Unlike the real migraine, it may not have any symptoms or disturbances. But if it is left untreated it can get worsen.
In middle-aged people, most of the eye problems come with the lifestyle diseases. It is the time most of the lifestyle diseases like diabetes and cholesterol pop up or rather gets diagnosed.
“Go for an eye check-up in case you have any of such lifestyle diseases. It will help you prevent vision problems in the future,” says Dr. Merine.
