Scientists at the University of Washington, in Seattle, have created a new biomimetic anthropomorphic robotic hand, with the goal of replacing human hands completely. According to the developers, Zhe Xu, and Emanuel Todorov, the device is the most biomimetic artificial hand ever made.
To develop the device, the scientists studied the human hand from an engineering perspective. Necessary scans were taken, and copies of bone were 3D printed to make the device perfect as possible. The developers analyzed many features that give the human hand its unique skills and used traditional mechanical components to reproduce those characteristics.
To achieve this goal, they utilized artificial joint capsules, pulley mechanisms, crocheted ligaments and tendons, and some other technologies.
